The British and European public are paying hugely inflated profit margins for diamonds. When you pay around £3,000 for a diamond it will have cost the jeweller around £1,000! And these profit margins can't be explained away due to the long term investment a jeweller makes in maintaining a stock of diamonds. The jeweller will have requested a diamond from a dealership in Antwerp or London that best suits your needs or desire and that diamond or diamonds will be held on trust. If you decide you don't want a particular diamond, the jeweller simply sends it back.

In the USA the diamond market is far more competitive and the profit margins are not kept artificially high by the controlling diamond markets. Certificates in the USA and UK are of equal value, thus certified diamonds in the UK and USA are of equal quality! Buying a diamond from the USA will give you a lot more diamond carat for your money!
